The ministry of education contract operates in secondary schools, working with Maori students at risk of falling out of the education system.
The objectives of the programme are to monitor the achievement levels of Maori students, working in conjunction with the Maori heads of departments, teachers and social workers to support their roles as educators and to impart learning that is culturally conducive and beneficial to Maori students.
MUMA's service has been highly successful operating where many have failed. The programme includes over 40 suitably qualified mentors to 170 students in four South Auckland schools.
