I hūnuku whare mai o tātou tūpuna i ngā tōpito o te motu ki a Tāmaki Mākaurau ki te whai oranga mo rātou me a rātou whānau.

Heoi anō ko mātou tenei ngā mōrehu no rātou o tātou tūpuna.

Ka whakatipu hei mātāwaka, arā ko te hunga e noho taone ana. E kī te hunga manawanui, te hunga manawaroa.

Our tūpuna travelled here last century through the 1950’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.

They came from all corners of Aotearoa in search of a new life for their whānau.

They found that better life and never returned home.

We are the descendants of those who came before us.

Our challenge is to merge an overriding kaupapa Māori framework with our business model and our tūrangawaewae (our place to stand), Ngā Whare Waatea marae.

MUMA has a track record of working as an integral part of our South Auckland community that is many decades long.

This is our strength. It is where we derive our mauri and wairua.

The community we serve and MUMA are one and the same.

We strive to be a dynamic, much-needed, business-oriented and authentic kaupapa Māori organisation that:

champions equity for our people,

is a key catalyst for the success of our hāpori and,

seeks to inspire pathways for our people to achieve mana motuhake (autonomy).

Our pou (core values) guide us, in times of prosperity and in times of struggle and hardship. They are a call to arms for MUMA whānau, its stakeholders and our hāpori (community)

A choppy sea can be successfully navigated.

It is essential to take time to recalibrate, and entrench our Māori core values, and te reo Māori, to take these beyond the rote-learned karakia and pēpehā context. While these are certainly valuable tools to help us on a Māori pathway, we need to do more to make these values living, vibrant tāonga tuku iho, that are organic and inform our actions constantly.
